How does iCAS work?
iCAS acts as middleware between a DMS/ECM system and the actual storage system. iTernity offers two interfaces: a web service API as well as a file system gateway (iFSG). Any software capable of placing data on a certain path or a UNC path can thus archive data in a legally compliant manner using iTernity.
Data is securely stored on the storage device using the CSC Container technology. Once stored, data cannot be manipulated. If desired, data can also be encrypted and compressed.
The end user typically works with DMS/EMC systems directly, so there is no impact from the iCAS middleware.
